Full job description

We are seeking a reliable, enthusiastic, and customer focused Cafe Assistant to become part of our welcoming team. In this role, you will help to ensure the seamless daily operation of our cafe, preparing fresh, delicious food and beverages for our guests in a warm and inviting setting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving food, delivering excellent customer service, and upholding the highest standards of hygiene. They will also play a key role in fostering the cafes welcoming, community-driven ambiance. Flexibility and teamwork are essential, and a genuine enthusiasm for providing exceptional service in a stunning natural setting is important.

Key responsibilities

The post-holder will be expected to:

• Craft and cook a selection of simple, freshly prepared dishes - such as soups, sandwiches, cakes, and light lunches - ensuring consistently high quality and presentation.

• Prepare and serve a variety of hot beverages, including coffees; barista experience or training is a valuable asset.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization in all food preparation and serving areas, ensuring strict adherence to food hygiene and health & safety regulations.

• Assist staff and volunteers, ensuring efficient daily operations and a well co-ordinated team environment.

• Provide courteous and efficient service to customers, swiftly taking orders, preparing beverages, and ensuring timely food delivery.

• Offer a welcoming and friendly service to all visitors, addressing their enquiries and ensuring a positive and enjoyable guest experience.

• Handle till operations efficiently, ensuring precise processing of cash and card payments.

• Assist in maintaining the presentation of the cafe by clearing tables, restocking supplies, and carrying out general cleaning tasks.

• Support catering efforts for special events and functions at Fairhaven, including tours, community gatherings, and seasonal celebrations.

 

Working Environment:

• Idyllic woodland location in the heart of the Norfolk Broads - own transport a necessity

• Based in the cafe at Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden. We also have a remote smaller-scale cafe operation within the Garden

• The role involves standing for extended periods and some manual handling.

• Shifts to include weekends, bank holidays, and occasional evenings for special events.

• Uniform will be provided and must be worn during working hours.

 

Start Date: Ideally mid March, can be negotiated. Work Pattern: Part-time (permanent). 32 hours per week, scheduled flexibly across seven days, including weekends.

Hours of Work: Shifts scheduled between 8am-5.30pm - occasionally evenings for special events

​

Salary: £12.64 per hour
